Historical Acrobatic Flag Wavers

(Italy)

In the Middle Age Europe, scarred by wars, the flags with the emblem of various cities were worn in the battle as symbols of noble houses. In peaceful times, the flag handlers of a community used to meet in order to establish the rituals needed to start the fight. Throughout time, these rituals were developed up to the point of becoming themselves a show. This is how the street performances inspired by the Italian traditions of fight flags appeared.

Founded in 1976, the group Historical Acrobatic Flag Wavers put forth a show based on historical events and Renaissance choreographic techniques. The Italian flag throwers held performances in Mexico, Turkey, Malaysia, Ireland, the U.S.A, Cyprus, Columbia, Russia, Germany, France etc.
