Flag Wavers from Rome

Flag Wavers from Rome

In Medieval Europe, affected by wars, the flags with the emblem of various cities were taken on the battlefields as symbols of the noble houses. In peaceful times, the flag wavers of a community met in order to establish the rituals for starting the fight. Throughout time, these rituals became more and more sophisticated until they turned into genuine shows. This is how the street performances inspired by the Italian traditions of the fight flags appeared.

Founded in 1976, the group Flag Wavers from Rome puts on a show based on century-old chorographical techniques, live music, and acrobatics. Made of young acrobats, Flag Wavers from Rome carries on the tradition of the old competitions between flag wavers by participating in numerous national and international street theater festivals.
